Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
"If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe."
-- Sofia Cavalletti
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a unique approach to children’s Christian formation. The program is based on the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. The primary belief is that God and the child have a unique relationship with one another and that the growth of this relationship should be assisted by the adult but is directed by the Spirit of God within the child.
At St. Luke’s, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is available for children ages 3 to 9 during the Sunday School hour. Each week, children ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 gather in their respective rooms, called atria. This special space contains hands-on materials that the children work with and use, such as a model altar. The children also gather around a prayer table each week to listen and talk with God.

DISCIPLE Bible Study
St. Luke's is a registered DISCIPLE Bible Study church, with members who have completed the basic course and certified instructors in the congregation. The DISCIPLE Bible Study program is an adult Christian education program, concentrating on an in-depth study of Scripture. The program is based on the beliefs that people are hungry for the word of God, for fellowship in prayer and study, and for a sense of appropriate ministry as baptized, believing, committed Christians. The program emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to Scripture.
This fall, 2010, we will again offer an introductory study of the bible. Please click HERE for more information, or contact Jim Tucker or the Church office.
