As a church, we emphasize the mystery of encountering God in worship. Our worship style varies among the services from formal with hymns played on the organ in the church building to a more relaxed setting in the Parish Hall with a blend of well-loved hymns and newer music accompanied by piano and occasionally other instruments. With this diversity, our worship finds its center in the Book of Common Prayer. Created from medieval liturgies at the time of the Reformation (1500s), our prayer book is filled with the beautiful language of well thought out and oft-prayed prayers that have sustained believers through the centuries.
The principal service on Sunday is the Holy Eucharist (Communion), which is offered each week focusing our worship on Christ’s presence in our midst. We follow the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL), a pattern of readings for each Sunday, which has us reading through much of the Bible in our common worship in a three-year cycle. Preaching and teaching the Word of Scripture are crucial features of Anglicanism, and so The Episcopal Church.
St. Luke's Has A Variety Of Worship Options
Sunday Services
8:00 AM Holy Eucharist:This service is held in the Church Building. It does not include music and thus the atmosphere is especially quiet and reflective.
9:00 AM Christian Formation (Sunday School for Children and Adults): service is held on the lower level of the Parish House (next door to the church) and can be accessed through the front door or via a more direct entrance at the rear of the building on the lower level. This service is known as being particularly “child friendly” (although children are warmly welcomed at all of our services). Occasionally the St. Luke’s Singers [children's choir] participates and a children’s sermon is offered. This is a more “relaxed” setting, but we still strive to conduct an orderly worship service so persons of all ages will understand and acknowledge that it is our intention to honor God in all that we do. Restrooms are available on upper and lower levels of the Parish House and the Nursery is located on the upper level and is staffed during the 9 and 10:30 AM services.
10:30 AM Holy Eucharist:This Service is held in the Church Building. There are music and hymns at this service, and the adult choir participates during special seasons and services.
When a fifth Sunday of the month occurs, or for a special occasion, we combine the 9 and 11AM services and worship at 10:30 AM. Check the weekly E-News for any changes.
During summer months (June-August) we gather for worship at 8 and 10 AM.
